An injection mould trial can produce several rounds of samples. If the samples are labelled only as first and second, the buyer may later struggle to connect them to the design revision and trial conditions that produced them.
Agreeing the sample record before the trial gives both parties a common reference. It also makes an acceptance discussion more precise than a visual judgement of whichever sample is on the desk.
Identify the part drawing revision and the relevant acceptance requirements. The mould supplier and buyer should agree which dimensions, appearance details and other features are included in the review.
If the design changes during development, distinguish the revised requirements from the original ones. Approval should relate to a defined version rather than a general understanding of the product.
The sample identification should connect to the material used, mould reference and relevant trial information. Ask which records the supplier will provide and which evaluation records the buyer will keep.
The responsible technical team should determine the appropriate trial method. A sample that looks satisfactory does not, by itself, establish production capability across other conditions.
An observation describes what was found. A decision describes whether the result meets an agreed requirement or needs further work. Keeping them separate prevents a comment such as looks fine from becoming an unexplained acceptance record.
A compact record can help:
| Record element | Purpose in the review |
| Part revision | Identifies the design being assessed |
| Sample reference | Connects the physical part to its trial record |
| Evaluation result | Describes the feature checked and the method used |
| Open action | Names the unresolved work and responsible party |
The entries should be specific to the project. They should not invent measurements or use a generic pass label where evaluation is incomplete.
When changes have been completed, record which samples and documents support the final decision. Confirm the handover scope, drawings and maintenance information included in the purchase.
For a buyer, the useful result is a traceable acceptance decision. A physical sample, its production context and its evaluation record should remain connected after the trial ends. Establishing that arrangement early makes the conversation about the mould easier to follow and gives future production enquiries a defined starting point.
